Just over two weeks ago Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it's recalling more than 1.9 million vehicles worldwide because their air bags might not deploy in a crash.

This recall affects a few models of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles from the 2010-2014 model years. Most of these vehicles are located in the United States, but according to the FCA 284,051 were sold outside North America and another 224,850 were sold in Canada and Mexico.

All the vehicles involved are listed below:
  • 2010 - Chrysler Sebring
  • 2010 - Chrysler Cirrus
  • 2011-2014 - Chrysler 200
  • 2010-2012 - Dodge Caliber
  • 2010-2014 - Dodge Avenger
  • 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot
  • 2010-2014 Jeep Compass

The FCA says a seat-belt and air-bag control module with a certain wiring design may not deploy the air bags or tighten the seat belts if the vehicle is involved in a frontal crash. This has the possibility to increase the risk of injury or even death. The FCA also said it's aware of the three deaths and five injuries that may be related to the issue. The FCA will contact owners and replace the defective parts for free.

Last month there was also a recall that involved more than 4 million General Motors Co.'s vehicles with faulty air bag and seat belt modules. These were cause by a software glitch and not a wiring problem.
